American electric vehicle manufacturing giant Tesla has been planning to enter India for quite some time. The Elon Musk-led company has been exploring various options to set up its manufacturing plant in India.
Several states have come forward with proposals, inviting Tesla to establish its plant in their state. Now, Tesla will make a final decision and is expected to announce the location for its plant in January 2025.

According to sources, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka are the frontrunners on the list for setting up Tesla's plant.
Gujarat, with its established automotive sector and business-friendly environment, is attracting Tesla to set up its plant. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support will also be an advantage for Gujarat.

Tamil Nadu is another state with a strong automotive industry base. With its automotive-friendly policies, the TN government is encouraging Tesla to set up a plant.
One of the largest states in the country, Maharashtra, with significant industrial strength, is also on the list of frontrunners for the Tesla plant. With its coastline, there would be logistical and shipping benefits for the state.

Karnataka, the technological hub of India, is also attracting Tesla with its tech-driven initiatives. As a highly tech-oriented company, Tesla sees Karnataka as a potential option.
Then there is Andhra Pradesh, which is appealing to Tesla with its strategic coastal locations and favourable industrial policies. Recently, Minister Nara Lokesh met Tesla CEO Vaibhav Taneja in the US and invited the company to invest in the state, making AP a potential choice for Tesla's plant.
