The ruling Telangana government has directed all departments to shift into government owned buildings. Offices must stop operating from private rented spaces.
As part of this move 39 offices will be relocated across the city.
In the latest step the Begumpet Divisional office of Revenue under the Commercial Taxes Department will move to the T-Hub building. This space was earlier meant for start ups. The decision has drawn wide attention.
Technology Hub or T-Hub was launched as a base for start up founders. It aimed to place them on the global innovation map. Spread over 5,85,000 sq ft it can host up to 1000 start ups.
T-Hub was a key project of the BRS government and a pet initiative of former IT Minister KT Rama Rao. The Congress government now plans to move offices into T-Hub 2.0 at Gachibowli.
The aim is to build a stronger innovation setup. It wants government academia and startups to work closely using the existing T-Hub network. Officials say this can help drive growth and better coordination.
Apart from Commercial Taxes other departments will also move in. These include forests environment and energy. All of them will operate from the same T-Hub building going forward.
