Toll On Rural Roads: Idea May Backfire!

Toll On Rural Roads: Idea May Backfire!

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in the Assembly on Tuesday highlighted the poor condition of the roads and came up with the idea of outsourcing the roads to maintain their quality and maintenance.

Under this new policy, private agencies will take up the construction and maintenance of rural roads and will collect toll fees on newly constructed roads.

The Chief Minister announced that Trucks, lorries, and cars will be subject to tolls, but autos, bikes, and tractors will be exempt.

Naidu also added that tolls will not be collected for travel within villages or up to Mandal headquarters, but only for routes extending beyond Mandal centers.

Why Insult Prabhas Under the Guise of Politics?

The model will be first implemented on a Pilot Basis in the Godavari districts and will be extended to other districts later on.

It is clear that Naidu had added frills to this project to avoid a burden on the common people but then, they will still feel the pinch.

The use of cars has become common on the rural side as well. Also, tolls for Trucks and lorries will increase the prices of essential commodities.

Now, we only have a Toll collection on the National Highways and people are always visibly angry even though it is in place for many years.

Despite the Government taking measures to save the commoners, it is a fact that it will impact everyone now or then and directly or indirectly.

The Government will face the brunt of starting this new model. Also, it is a problem that the contractors levy tolls but do not maintain roads properly.

This is one idea that will definitely cost political capital for TDP and its allies.
