Toxic AP TG Breakeven: Yash Shocks Dhurandhar 2 Makers?

The trade buzz around Toxic has intensified, with the film locking its Andhra Pradesh and Telangana AP and TG theatrical rights for a hefty Rs. 40 crores advance, according to Pinkvilla.

The rights have been secured by PVR INOX Pictures on a commission basis.

From a trade perspective, the stakes are high. For Toxic to break even in the AP and TG region alone, the film reportedly needs to collect close to half of the closing numbers of KGF Chapter 2 which was around 80 crores share. This is achievable but not easy.

This deal also reflects a broader shift in the distribution space. Just a day after reports surfaced about Shah Rukh Khan's King receiving an advance offer of Rs. 200 crores, Toxic securing a strong AP and TG deal signals renewed confidence among exhibitors and distributors in big ticket event films. While PVR INOX Pictures is expected to sub-distribute most territories within Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to local players, it may retain select areas. This is a common strategy for major releases.

The film is currently scheduled to clash with Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge during the Eid festive period in March. This clash becomes complicated because Dhurandhar holds the record as the highest grossing film ever for PVR INOX, making it unlikely for the chain to sideline its sequel. However, PVR INOX's stake in Toxic could potentially offer strategic advantages in terms of screen allocation, especially in key markets like the Hindi belt and Bengaluru.

With ample time left before release, trade circles believe a clash may still be avoided. But if both films do arrive on the same day, Toxic appears to have secured a solid foundation to take on a formidable rival, backed by strong distribution muscle and rising audience curiosity. Yash is all set to give a tough fight to Dhurandhar 2.

In the coming days, the screen fight game between Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic is going to be huge and something not witnessed before in Indian cinema.
