The US court slammed Israel's NSO Group, makers of Pegasus spyware, holding them accountable for illegal surveillance of WhatsApp chats including 300 Indians. While NSO claimed they worked for governments, the court has found no bearing in these statements.

WhatsApp's head, Will Cathcart, also chimed in calling the ruling a win for privacy. For years, the Meta-owned messaging app has fought spyware companies like NSO, insisting no one is above the law.
In India, the opposition has pounced on the controversy with the congress leader Randeep Surjewala taking charge. He has demanded answers on who these targeted individuals are and are there any ministers, journalists, or business leaders who have been compromised.
