Venkat Prabhu said that the Custody movie was initially written by him as a caste-based movie, similar to the zone of Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai, and he also made the script to address serious issues in the flavor of Vetrimaaran and Pa Ranjith-flavored movies.
However, he made some corrections to the script because he was told that Telugu audiences wouldn't accept caste-based movies, and as a result, the movie ended up as a failure.

Additionally, Venkat Prabhu said that the actual plot he had written initially for Custody was about an oppressed-community constable who catches a most-wanted criminal, who is also of his same caste. The question was whether he would stand for justice or his caste.
After this, many people started criticizing Venkat Prabhu on social media, saying that since Custody ended up as a failure, he is now telling the real story.

They argued that if the Telugu audience wouldn't accept a caste-based movie, he should have made a completely different script. Instead, he made corrections to the original script, which diluted its flavor, ultimately delivering a flop movie to Naga Chaitanya.
