KCR SIT enquiry continued for over four hours on Sunday in the phone tapping case. The Special Investigation Team questioned KCR at his Nandinagar residence in Hyderabad.
The enquiry began around 3 pm amid tight security.
During the KCR SIT enquiry, officials focused mainly on the role of Prabhakar Rao. Investigators questioned why Prabhakar Rao was continued as Intelligence Chief even after his retirement. They sought clarity on the necessity of retaining him in such a sensitive position.
SIT officials also questioned the three-year service extension granted to Prabhakar Rao. They pointed out that extensions are usually limited to two years. Investigators reportedly asked what special requirement led to granting an additional year.
Another key issue in the KCR SIT enquiry was the decision to appoint Prabhakar Rao as the designated authority for lawful interception. SIT questioned why he was given this role despite alleged lack of eligibility. Officials indicated that these decisions raised serious concerns.
In response, KCR reportedly told the SIT that the proposals came from within the police department. He stated that the decisions on reappointment and extension were made based on official recommendations.
The SIT also linked these decisions to the broader phone tapping case. Officials noted that Prabhakar Rao is a main accused in the case. They questioned whether these appointments pointed to a deliberate pattern.
Apart from this, SIT questioned KCR on the promotion of Praneeth Rao from the 2007 SI batch. Investigators asked why only he was promoted as DSP. KCR is said to have repeated that the proposal originated from the police department.
The enquiry concluded late in the evening after recording KCR's responses. Heavy police deployment continued around the residence as BRS cadres gathered nearby. SIT officials are expected to examine the answers in the next phase of the investigation.
