What Is the Film About?
Karthik is a local guy from 12A Railway Colony. He chills out with his friends and does small works for the local MLA candidate Tillu.
Aradhana stays opposite his house whom he slowly starts to like and falls in love with.
An unfortunate state of events happens and Karthik finds himself involved in a crime. What happened? How did Karthik get out of the situation? Who is responsible for the chain of events is the movie's basic plot.
Performances
Allari Naresh feels like a welcome presence on screen. He takes on Telangana slang in the movie which further brings a little freshness.
In general, the movie offers Allari Naresh good scope to show his various shades. There is fun, drama and emotion which are all done with subtlety. Nothing is extraordinary here, but it gives the feeling of being done very effortlessly.
Kamakshi Bhaskarla playing the heroine isn't the typical one we see in commercial flicks. However, there is nothing more to her part than the tough exterior shown from the start.
Analysis
Nani Kasaragadda directs 12A Railway Colony. It is a small town romance cum thriller story with few bits of horror elements thrown in.
The movie opens well, taking us straight into the world. The chemistry between the friends group too is instantly palpable. It helps us move through the proceedings smoothly and wait for something to happen.
Unfortunately, that something takes a long time to come. A lot of time is taken in establishing the hero and heroine's track without them actually talking or romancing each other. We see everything from the hero's perspective. It is fine, but it feels stretched after a point as the narrative has to be filled with predictable content.
The intriguing bits involve the thriller parts involving the politician and a mysterious character that comes into the scene only once or twice.
Finally, after all the happenings, it's only the interval block that throws some surprise and gives us a hint into the story. However, the way it's done doesn't entirely let the shock factor work to its full extent.
The good thing is the narrative doesn't rely on the shock factor. It moves into thriller space immediately after the interval. And we start getting one twist after the other as the narrative progresses.
And that's where the biggest issue with 12A Railway Colony comes forth. The various twists that come as the story progresses don't give the required thrill. They just go about flatly.
We guess even the makers know this too and try to cover it with a screenplay that jumps from one point to another abruptly. Things are clear eventually, but it gives a very haphazard feeling. And then if one thinks, the logic too seems to go for a toss. For an investigative thriller narrative (in the second half), the actual investigation feels very shoddy.
Things happen in the same vein until the end. There are hardly any thrills or scares or surprises in the process. Even some cruel moments too hardly evoke the required emotion. They are all neatly done with polish, though.
Overall, 12A Railway Colony has a decent story that is packed with twists and turns. But the flat execution without any thrills spoils the fun. Even hardcore thriller fans might feel bored.
Performances by Others Actors
Jeevan, usually seen in comedic parts, gets a serious role here. He goes about the proceedings clinically. The act suggests he can do non-fun parts, as well. Viva Harsha is reliable like he is most of the time. Getup Seenu feels wasted. Saikumar is fine in a typical role assigned to him.
Music and Other Departments?
Bheems Ceciroleo's song sounds alright, but nothing genuinely sticks. The background score is decent, even though there's nothing to take home. Kushendar Ramesh Reddy's cinematography is neat. The look and feel of the small town within a limited budget is captured well. The director also edits the movie and it is okay. The screenplay choice makes the narrative look a bit choppy towards the end. The dialogues are alright.
