Significant upgrades for Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid and Z7 Hybrid

Kawasaki continues refining its hybrid motorcycle technology with new updates for the Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid and Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid. These machines remain the only mass-produced Strong Hybrid motorcycles currently available worldwide and now receive two rider-focused improvements designed to enhance everyday usability.

The upgrades follow extensive research by Kawasaki engineers into the bikes' electronic systems, particularly the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The improvements focus on the drive mode selection system and the operation of the Sport Mode within the gearbox.

Greater flexibility when switching riding modes

One of the most distinctive features of these hybrid motorcycles is the ability to manually switch between full EV mode and Hybrid mode while riding. This capability is particularly useful in urban environments where zero-emission zones are becoming increasingly common.

Previously, riders could only manually select between EV and Hybrid modes up to 25 km/h. Following the latest update, this threshold has been increased to 60 km/h, significantly improving real-world usability and allowing smoother transitions between riding environments.

This development was driven by feedback from customers, media and dealers, combined with Kawasaki's ongoing research and development work.

Sport Mode now available with automatic transmission

Another key improvement concerns the Sport Mode functionality. Until now, this setting was only available when the rider selected manual transmission mode, using the shift paddles located on the left handlebar controls.

With the latest update, riders can now activate a new automatic transmission configuration specifically tuned for Sport Mode. This allows for a more engaging riding experience while maintaining the convenience of automatic gear changes.

Hybrid technology continues to evolve

The Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid and Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid represent one of the most advanced hybrid approaches in the motorcycle industry, combining an internal combustion engine with electric propulsion in a sophisticated integrated system.

This innovative platform gained international recognition in 2024 by winning the Innovation of the Year award from Motor Cycle News.

The updated 2026 models are now available for test rides at selected Kawasaki dealerships.
