Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand on Monday asked officers in charge of all police stations to collect details of Durga Pujas in their areas ahead of a video conference with him later this week, police sources said.
The police stations have also been asked to keep crowd circulation plans for big pandals ready for the meeting, an officer said.
The annual Durga Puja coordination meeting, where the chief minister traditionally meets puja organisers and announces the year's plans, will be held at the Milan Mela ground on September 7.
The commissioner's meeting will be held before that.
"CP sir said that as this was his first Durga Puja, he wanted to hold a virtual meeting with all the police stations to know details about the big and important Durga Pujas across the city. He also emphasised collecting details about the puja clubs," said an officer.
Nand mentioned this during Monday's crime conference.
Police sources said that, as a preparatory move, officers will hold meetings with the organisers of the big-ticket Puja pandals to check their themes and scale this year.
"Because of the change in guard in the state, some of the Durga Pujas that were organised by Trinamool Congress leaders may have been scaled down, while there could be new Pujas that grow in proportion. We will have to collect those details, too, for the assessment of crowd circulation at the pandals," said another officer.
Police officers are also awaiting a list of roads that need repairs, better lighting and tree trimming.
"Once we get that list, we will work in association with the CESC and the KMC to get the roads repaired, the trees trimmed and the dark roads illuminated. All this will be done before the Pujas," said a senior Kolkata Police officer.
