The Jammu and Kashmir administration has approached the police demanding registration of an FIR against a leader representing displaced Kashmiri Pandits.

The move came after he accused the Relief Commissioner of illegal allotments and accepting bribes in a Facebook comment.

The Office of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants), Jammu, in a statement stated that the leader was allegedly provoking people against the government-notified Special Relief Ration Scheme. The administration also accused him of encouraging actions that could lead to violence and disturb public order.

The communication was sent to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu. It stated that Sunil Bhat posted the allegations in the comment section of a video shared on social media by Valley Express News.

The letter said "It has come to the notice of this office that one Sunil Bhat has posted a derogatory comment on Facebook social media site on the video post of Valley Express News, wherein he has mentioned that Relief Commissioner has made illegal allotment of shops and received bribe for allotments. The comments of Sunil Bhat have tarnished the image of relief organisation in general and relief and rehabilitation commissioner in particular."

According to the statement issued, Bhat was provoking people against the Special Relief Ration Scheme and encouraging unrest and public disorder through his social media activity and other means.

The letter, issued by Assistant Commissioner (Relief) Kailash Devi, directed the police to immediately register an FIR against Sunil Bhat. The administration claimed that the allotment of shops at the Jagti migrant camp was conducted transparently based on recommendations made by a panel of senior officers.
It also stated that the department was open to any probe by a government agency into the allotment process and would extend full cooperation.

Meanwhile, displaced Kashmiri Pandits held protests in Jammu on Wednesday against the administration's decision to integrate their relief rations under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). Minor clashes were reported when protesters attempted to march towards the office of the Relief Commissioner.
