Matt Damon to headline Daniels' new film

Matt Damon to headline Daniels' new film

News Arena India 13 hrs ago

Oscar-winning actor Matt Damon is in negotiations to star in the highly anticipated film from Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

The film marks the director duo's first major cinematic project since their critically acclaimed multiverse drama "Everything Everywhere All at Once" swept the Academy Awards with seven honours in 2023. The project will be backed by Universal.

The directors, known collectively as Daniels, have been working on the movie for the past three years.

The story revolves around global warming, time travel, and possibly has a superhero angle. And there are two timelines, one set in the 1980s and one set in the present day. The protagonists of the story are teens in the 1980s-set timeline.

Daniels were initially keen to cast Ryan Gosling as the father of the teens, but the casting fell through as the actor wanted the role to be bigger.

But accommodating the script changes would have led to further delays and Gosling could not be a part of it. The directors finally settled on Damon.

"Everything Everywhere All at Once" was about a Chinese immigrant who gets embroiled in an adventure where she must connect different versions of herself in the parallel universe to stop someone who wants to harm the multiverse.

The film won best picture, director, best actress for Michelle Yeoh, and best supporting actor and actress trophies for Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis among its seven Oscars.
