Amritsar police on Wednesday said they have busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling network. Four people, including a juvenile, were arrested in the operation.

Police also recovered seven sophisticated pistols and 12 cartridges from the accused.

Initial probe revealed that the suspects were in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers through a social media platform. They were allegedly helping in smuggling illegal weapons into India through the Attari sector, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.

According to the DGP, the consignments were picked up from pre-decided locations after being smuggled across the border. The weapons were then supplied to local criminal networks operating in different parts of Punjab, he said in a post on X.

An FIR has been registered at the Chheharta police station in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Arms Act. Police said further probe is underway to trace both forward and backward links and to dismantle the entire smuggling network.
