Punjab, Haryana reel under intense heatwave

Intense heat continued to affect Punjab and Haryana on Thursday, with high temperatures persisting across both states for the past few days.

Faridkot and Sirsa were the hottest places, officials said.

Faridkot in Punjab recorded a maximum temperature of 45.9 degrees Celsius. Sirsa in Haryana recorded 45.8 degrees Celsius, as per the Meteorological Department. Many other parts of both states also faced severe heatwave conditions. Temperatures remained well above normal levels across most regions.

Chandigarh, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana, also faced a hot day. The city recorded 44.2 degrees Celsius, which is more than four degrees above normal. In Haryana, Rohtak recorded a maximum temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius. This was about five degrees above normal.

Ambala recorded 44.2 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees above normal. Hisar recorded 44.3 degrees Celsius, about three degrees above normal.

Karnal recorded a high of 43.8 degrees Celsius, around five degrees above normal. Bhiwani also faced a hot day with 44 degrees Celsius. Gurugram recorded a maximum of 42 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Bathinda also saw intense heatwave conditions. The city recorded a high of 45.6 degrees Celsius. Patiala recorded 44.9 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees above normal. Ludhiana recorded 43 degrees Celsius, around four degrees above normal. Amritsar recorded a maximum of 41.5 degrees Celsius.
