Google's Gmail is the most widely used online account in the world. People have been using Google's Gmail facility for many years.
Many people opened their Gmail account many years ago. Even today, many people are using the same old Gmail account. But many people want to change the name of their Gmail account. Now there is good news for such users. The company has started a new facility for its users. Now users will be able to change the username of their Gmail account. This means that now users will get the facility to change the name used before @gmail.com.
Data will remain safe
Earlier, when users wanted to change the name of their account, they had only one option, that was to create a new account. But now this will not happen. Because with the new feature of Google, users will get the facility to change the username of their Gmail account. So now users will not need to create a new account just for the username. Even after changing the Gmail username, your emails, photos and files will remain the same. There will be no change in them. Google has provided this facility because your new email will become your main login ID.
Follow these steps to change your Gmail username
First, go to your Google Account Settings. Here, open Personal Information and tap Email. Select a new Google Account email and choose the option to change this email. Choose or create a new username and confirm it. Currently, this Google feature is only available to users in the United States. The company is gradually rolling out this feature to all users.
What will happen to your old email address?
Google has stated that under the new feature, when a user changes their email address, their old Gmail ID will continue to function as an alternate email address. If someone sends an email to your old email address, you will receive it on your new email address. There are certain limits on changing your Gmail username.
Users cannot change their email ID frequently
Once a username is changed, users will not be able to change their email ID again until approximately 12 months have passed. The
new username you choose must be available.
Your old username will not be given to anyone else.
For example, if you want to give your old username to a relative or friend, this will not be possible.
