India has welcomed the recently announced ceasefire between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the development will pave the way for long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.
MEA Emphasises Dialogue and De-escalation
In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, "We welcome the ceasefire reached and hope that it will lead to lasting peace in West Asia."
The ministry reiterated India's consistent position that conflicts must be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy, and de-escalation, stressing that these are the only sustainable paths to peace.
Conflict Had Global Impact
The MEA highlighted that the prolonged hostilities had caused significant suffering to civilians and disrupted key global systems, including energy supplies and international trade networks.
Focus on Strait of Hormuz
India also underlined the importance of maintaining stability in critical maritime routes. Referring to the Strait of Hormuz - a vital global oil transit chokepoint - the government expressed hope that uninterrupted navigation and trade flows would continue.
A Positive Signal for the Region
The ceasefire, announced by US President Donald Trump and accepted by Iran, has drawn positive reactions globally. For India, which has strategic and economic interests in the region, the development is seen as a crucial step toward easing tensions and restoring stability in West Asia.
