PM Modi to visit Pune-based Serum Institute of India on 28 November
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune on Saturday. A senior official informed me about it on Thursday. SII is working in partnership with global drug manufacturer AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford to develop the vaccine for Kovid-19.
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization has allowed seven companies to manufacture the Kovid-19 vaccine for pre-clinical screening, testing, and analysis. Two of these are SII and Genova Biopharmaceuticals.
"We have received the confirmation of Prime Minister Modi's arrival at Serum Institute of India on Saturday," said Mandalayat Saurabh Rao of Pune. He will attend the program scheduled between 1 pm and 2 pm at the Serum Institute, Pune. There he will review the system of production and distribution of Kovid-19 vaccines. '
Prior to the Prime Minister's visit, the SPG (Special Protection Group) team has arrived in the city and is making concrete security arrangements with the local administration. Rao had said on Tuesday that the Prime Minister was likely to visit Pune, and if that would be the case, the aim would be to review the mechanism of production, distribution, and mechanism of coronavirus infection vaccine.
Rao had also informed that on December 4, ambassadors and diplomats from more than 100 countries will visit SII and Genova Biopharmaceuticals here.
