Telecom Companies Airtel, Vodafone and Idea have been imposed with a penalty due to Jio

Digital Communications Commission (DCC) has approved its penalty for Bharti Airtel and Vodafone-Idea fines. This penalty has been imposed on RIL for not making enough points of interconnection available. DCC has asked TRAI for amending the amount imposed on both the companies.

While DCC has given green signal for imposing a penalty on Airtel and Vodafone-Idea, the proposal has been rejected at the same time in which it was recommended to impose a penalty on Reliance Jio for failing to provide quality full service to the customers.

Sources said that DCC has given its approval to impose a penalty on Bharti Airtel and Vodafone-Idea for not providing enough points of interconnection to Reliance Jio. In October 2016, TRAI had recommended the penalty of Rs 3,050 crore on Airtel and Vodafone-Idea for Reliance Jio not providing interconnectivity.

A fine of Rs 1050-1050 crores was imposed on both Airtel and Vodafone, while a fine of Rs 950 crores was recommended on Idea. Vodafone and Idea have merged together so the new company Vodafone-Idea will have to pay a fine of Rs 2000 crores.

TRAI had recommended this fine after Reliance Jio complaining that 75% of calls were being failed on o's network due to not providing adequate points of interconnection by the competing companies.
