Mysuru: Emphasising the critical role of census data in governance and policymaking, Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy has urged citizens to provide accurate information during the upcoming Census 2027 exercise.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, he stated that reliable data collected through the census will help the government design targeted welfare schemes and development programmes.

The Census 2027 exercise will be conducted in two phases. The first phase includes self-enumeration, followed by house listing and housing census, and will be carried out from April 1 to May 15.

The second phase, which involves individual enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027.

Officials highlighted that the phased approach is aimed at ensuring comprehensive data collection while allowing citizens sufficient time to participate in the process.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that citizens can take part in self-enumeration from April 1 to 15 by logging on to the official portal and responding to a set of 33 questions related to housing and household conditions.

He appealed to the public to actively participate in large numbers, noting that higher participation will improve the accuracy and usefulness of the data collected.

Self-enumeration is expected to simplify the process for both citizens and officials, reducing the need for extensive door-to-door surveys in the initial stage.

To ensure smooth implementation of the census, the district administration has made elaborate preparations. A total of 6,013 enumeration blocks have been created across Mysuru district.

Additionally, 7,748 personnel have been deployed for the exercise, including 6,540 enumerators and 1,207 supervisors. All personnel are undergoing training to efficiently carry out their responsibilities during the census.

These arrangements are intended to ensure systematic coverage and minimise errors during data collection.

The census will gather detailed information on multiple socio-economic and demographic parameters. These include literacy levels, education, housing conditions, urbanisation trends, fertility rates, and data on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

It will also cover aspects such as language, religion, migration patterns, disability, and other cultural and social indicators. Such comprehensive data is essential for evidence-based policymaking and long-term planning.

Mr. Reddy stressed that the success of the census depends largely on public cooperation. Accurate and honest responses from citizens will enable authorities to better understand ground realities and allocate resources effectively.

He reiterated that the information collected will play a key role in shaping future welfare initiatives and improving service delivery.

The press conference was attended by P Shivaraju, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and G S Somashekar, Mysuru City Census Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru City Corporation.

With the Census 2027 exercise set to begin, authorities in Mysuru are focusing on awareness and preparedness to ensure its success. By encouraging active citizen participation and ensuring accurate data collection, the administration aims to strengthen the foundation for effective governance and inclusive development.
