Mumbai:Arjun Tendulkar has opened up about his move away from Mumbai Indians (MI), stating that limited opportunities played a key role in his decision to join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season.
The young all-rounder, son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, spent five seasons with Mumbai Indians from 2021 to 2025 but featured in only five matches during that period.
Speaking on a podcast, Arjun candidly addressed the lack of game time during his stint with MI. When asked whether he felt he deserved more chances, he responded with honesty.
'Who doesn't feel that? No one wants to sit on the bench. But we want to work hard and perform when we get a chance,' he said.
Despite showing promise with his swing bowling in the limited opportunities he received, Arjun struggled to cement a regular place in a star-studded Mumbai Indians lineup.
Arjun now finds himself with Lucknow Super Giants, where he hopes for more consistent opportunities to showcase his all-round abilities. While he is yet to make his debut for LSG, the move represents a fresh start in his IPL journey.
The 24-year-old expressed readiness to adapt to any role assigned by the team management, including batting at various positions in the middle or lower order.
'I am ready to bat wherever the team needs me,' he indicated, highlighting his flexibility and team-first approach.
Arjun also weighed in on the much-debated Impact Player rule in the IPL, which has drawn mixed reactions from players and experts.
He made it clear that he prefers the traditional format of the game, where 11 players carry the responsibility throughout the match.
'Pick 11 and play. Because in international T20s and other leagues, there is no Impact Player. I am personally against the rule,' he said.
His comments echo concerns raised by several cricketers who believe the rule disrupts the balance and traditional dynamics of the game.
Lucknow Super Giants are widely regarded as a team with a strong top order, though their middle and lower-middle order have been areas of concern. This could potentially open the door for players like Arjun to step in and make an impact.
While he may not start immediately in the playing XI, Arjun remains optimistic about the team's prospects and his own chances.
'Our middle order is also very powerful. T20 is a game where anyone can beat anyone, so I think we have a bright chance to do well in this tournament,' he said.
Arjun Tendulkar's move to Lucknow Super Giants marks a significant turning point in his IPL career. After years of limited opportunities with Mumbai Indians, he now has a platform to prove his capabilities and carve out a more prominent role.
With a positive mindset, willingness to adapt, and determination to succeed, Arjun will be keen to make the most of any opportunity that comes his way in IPL 2026.
