Ashwini Vaishnaw confirms Madgaon-Mangaluru Vande Bharat extension to Bengaluru

News Karnataka 1 day ago

Mangaluru: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a letter to Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, has said that the Madgaon-Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express will be extended to Bengaluru via Subrahmanya Road and Kabaka Puttur.

The minister said the train will operate as Train No. 26655/26656 Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express with revised timings.

The extension will provide a direct Vande Bharat connection between Bengaluru and the coastal region, with the service passing through the Subrahmanya Road and Kabaka Puttur stations.

Revised route and timings

According to the minister’s communication, the existing Madgaon-Mangaluru Vande Bharat service will be extended towards Yeshwantpur. The revised operation will connect Yeshwantpur, Mangaluru and Madgaon, bringing Bengaluru into the train’s route.

The service will travel through the Subrahmanya Road and Kabaka Puttur sections, providing an additional semi-high-speed rail connection between Bengaluru and Dakshina Kannada.

The move is expected to benefit passengers travelling between Bengaluru, Puttur, Subrahmanya, Mangaluru and Goa.

New train number

With the extension, the service will operate under the revised train numbers 26655 and 26656.

The Railway Ministry is also expected to implement revised departure and arrival timings to accommodate the extended route. The exact schedule will determine the connectivity available to passengers at Yeshwantpur, Mangaluru and Madgaon.

The extension is significant for Dakshina Kannada as the route will connect the district with Karnataka’s capital through the Subrahmanya Road-Kabaka Puttur corridor.

Boost to Bengaluru-Mangaluru connectivity

The Bengaluru-Mangaluru rail route is an important link between the state capital and the coastal region. The introduction of a Vande Bharat service on the extended route is expected to offer passengers another faster travel option.

The service will also provide connectivity between Bengaluru and Goa through Mangaluru, although the actual journey duration and stoppage pattern will depend on the revised timetable announced by the Railways.

Further operational details, including the revised schedule and stoppages, are expected to be issued by the railway authorities.
