In a major boost for long-distance rail passengers, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved aVande Bharat Sleeper train for the high-demand Bengaluru-Mumbai corridor.
The decision is expected to bring faster, more comfortable overnight travel to one of India's busiest intercity routes, widely used by professionals, students, families and tourists.
The new service will run between KSR Bengaluru Railway Station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
This marks an important step in expanding the Vande Bharat network beyond day-travel chair car trains. Until now, most Vande Bharat services have catered to shorter journeys with seating coaches. The sleeper version is specially designed for longer overnight routes.
Passengers can expect modern interiors, improved sleeping berths, enhanced safety systems and a smoother travel experience.
The Bengaluru-Mumbai rail corridor witnesses strong daily demand throughout the year. Current overnight trains are popular but often face heavy bookings.
With the sleeper Vande Bharat, travellers are likely to benefit from reduced journey time and premium onboard comfort, making business and family travel easier.
The move is expected to especially help regular commuters who frequently travel between Karnataka and Maharashtra for work, education and healthcare.
Railway authorities have not yet announced the official launch date, schedule or ticket fares. These details are expected in the coming weeks.
The approval reflects the Centre's larger push to modernise Indian Railways and introduce faster, world-class services on major routes across the country
