Bengaluru:Bhuvneshwar Kumar etched his name in history by becoming the first fast bowler to claim 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League during Royal Challengers Bengaluru 's clash against Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5.

The landmark moment came when Bhuvneshwar dismissed Ayush Mhatre for 1, achieving a feat that places him among the elite bowlers in IPL history. He is now only the second bowler overall to reach the milestone, behind Yuzvendra Chahal.

Bhuvneshwar's milestone wicket came through a classic delivery outside off stump that climbed sharply on the batter. Attempting a pull shot, Ayush Mhatre mistimed the ball, which was safely caught by Rajat Patidar at mid-off.

The moment was celebrated warmly by teammates and acknowledged by the Bengaluru crowd, highlighting the significance of the achievement for one of India's most consistent pace bowlers.

Since making his IPL debut in 2011, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has built a reputation not through raw pace but through precision, swing, and tactical awareness.

His most successful seasons came with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he remains the only bowler in IPL history to win consecutive Purple Caps — picking up 23 wickets in 2016 and 26 in 2017.

Across 145 matches for Hyderabad, he claimed 157 wickets at an impressive average of 26.81, maintaining an economy rate of 7.72. He has also represented Pune Warriors and now RCB, adapting his game across different teams and conditions.

As T20 cricket evolved into a batter-dominated format, Bhuvneshwar refined his approach by focusing on variations, disciplined lengths, and smart use of conditions.

While injuries briefly hampered his rhythm in recent years, his move to RCB ahead of the 2025 season marked a turning point. He worked on his fitness and returned with renewed effectiveness, playing a key role in the team's title-winning campaign last year.

This season, he has continued to provide control and experience to the RCB bowling unit, complementing their aggressive batting line-up.

Bhuvneshwar's 200-wicket milestone places him among the leading wicket-takers in IPL history. While Yuzvendra Chahal continues to lead the overall charts, Bhuvneshwar now stands as the most successful fast bowler in the league.

Earlier in the match, RCB produced a commanding batting display, posting 250/3 — the highest total of the IPL 2026 season so far. Tim David and Devdutt Padikkal struck fluent half-centuries, setting the tone for a dominant outing.

The bowlers then backed up the effort, restricting CSK and securing a comprehensive victory.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's achievement is a testament to longevity, adaptability, and skill in one of the most demanding T20 leagues in the world. Becoming the first fast bowler to reach 200 IPL wickets cements his legacy as one of the finest seamers in the tournament's history.

As IPL 2026 progresses, his experience will continue to be crucial for RCB, both in guiding younger bowlers and delivering in key moments.
