Mangaluru: Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) marked World Health Day 2026 with a meaningful outreach programme titled 'A Token of Care for the Guardians of the Road,' organised for Mangaluru Traffic Police personnel on April 15. The initiative, aligned with the theme 'Together for Health: Stand with Science,' focused on promoting health awareness and preventive care among frontline traffic personnel.
More than 150 traffic police personnel participated in the programme, which aimed to address occupational health concerns and encourage self-care among those who ensure public safety on the roads.
The programme highlighted the various health challenges faced by traffic police due to the nature of their duties. These included stress, fatigue, prolonged exposure to sunlight, dermatological issues, noise pollution, and musculoskeletal problems arising from long hours of standing.
The initiative served as both a gesture of appreciation and a practical effort to equip personnel with knowledge and tools to manage these challenges effectively.
Dr. Uday Kumar, Medical Superintendent, welcomed the dignitaries, including Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of FMCI, and Chief Guest Mr. K. Ravi Shankar (KSPS), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime & Traffic).
Other dignitaries present included Rev. Fr. George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator of FMMCH; Rev. Dr. Michael L. Santhumayor, Administrator of FMMC; and Mr. Shivkumar, Traffic Police Inspector.
As part of the inauguration, the Chief Guest was welcomed with a sapling, symbolising growth and care. A specially curated care package containing products from the Father Muller Homoeopathic Pharmaceutical Division was presented to address heat-related discomfort and body pain commonly experienced by traffic personnel.
