Four die in pond tragedies in Tumakuru and Anekal

News Karnataka 1 month ago

Four persons, including two children and a mother-daughter pair, lost their lives in two separate pond-related tragedies reported from Tumakuru district and Anekal since Sunday.

In the first incident, siblings M Suchitra (11) and M Ravindra (9) drowned in an agricultural pond at Benakanahalli on Sunday evening.

Police said the children had gone to graze sheep in a nearby field. They are believed to have entered the pond either to play or drink water.

The siblings were children of agriculturist Manjunath. With schools closed for summer vacation, they had been helping their family with daily chores.

When the children did not return home, family members began searching and later found their bodies in the pond.

In the second incident, S Lavanya (28) and her eight-year-old daughter S Lakshata were found dead in a pond at Surya City.

Police suspect suicide in the case.

Family members of Lavanya have accused her husband Sampath of harassment and abetment.

According to police, the couple had married in 2017 and reportedly faced frequent domestic disputes.

A case of abetment to suicide has been registered against Sampath, and further investigation is underway.

The incidents have once again highlighted the dangers posed by unsecured agricultural ponds and the need for emotional support systems in families facing distress
