Chhatarpur: In a tragic and unusual incident, a hotel room boy lost his life after being electrocuted by a high-tension power line while attempting to scare away a monkey at a hotel in Chhatarpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Raikwar, also known as Ranu, who was employed at Khajuraho Heritage Hotel in the Bamitha police station limits.
According to initial reports, the incident took place when Pradeep noticed a monkey on the hotel premises and attempted to drive it away using an iron pipe. During the process, the pipe allegedly came into contact with a 33 kV high-tension power line passing nearby.
The contact resulted in a severe electric shock, leading to his death on the spot. The sudden nature of the incident left other staff and bystanders shocked.
Local police were alerted immediately after the incident and rushed to the scene. The body was later shifted for post-mortem examination as part of standard procedure.
Authorities have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and assess whether safety lapses contributed to the accident.
The incident has raised concerns about the proximity of high-voltage power lines to working and residential areas, particularly in hospitality establishments where staff frequently operate outdoors.
Experts note that the use of metal objects near high-tension lines significantly increases the risk of fatal electrocution, especially in situations involving animals or unexpected movement.
The tragic death of Pradeep Raikwar highlights the dangers posed by high-voltage infrastructure when proper safety measures are not ensured. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances closely to prevent similar incidents in the future.
