In tech-driven Bengaluru, hospitality rediscovers the human touch

In an era where artificial intelligence and digital platforms increasingly shape daily life, the hospitality industry is facing an important shift.

While technology is transforming guest experiences through automation and predictive systems, industry leaders believe the true value of hospitality still lies in human connection.

Shiv Bose, General Manager of Holiday Inn Bengaluru Racecourse, says the industry is witnessing a paradox: the more technology integrates into travel, the more guests seek authentic, human interactions during their stay.

For years, there were concerns that automation and robotics would eventually replace traditional hospitality roles such as concierges and front desk staff. However, the reality has turned out to be far more balanced.

According to Bose, technology today is primarily used to remove friction from the guest journey. Digital systems handle routine processes such as payments, check-ins, data management and service coordination, allowing hotel staff to focus on providing meaningful guest experiences.

Modern hotels increasingly rely on data to anticipate guest preferences. From room temperature and pillow types to preferred floor levels, many hotels now prepare personalised experiences before guests even arrive.

However, Bose emphasises that data alone cannot replace human emotional intelligence.

While an algorithm can identify that a guest is travelling for business, it cannot recognise when that traveller may be exhausted after a long flight or appreciate a simple gesture such as a warm greeting or a glass of water.

In cities like Bengaluru, where business travel dominates, the concept of 'bleisure' — combining business with leisure — has become increasingly common.

Travellers today expect hotels to offer more than just accommodation. They seek spaces that support productivity while also providing comfort, relaxation and a sense of personal connection.

Automating operational tasks allows hotel teams to dedicate more time to personalised service, creating experiences that guests remember long after their stay.

Industry experts believe the future of hospitality lies not in building more 'smart hotels' but in creating 'sensitive hotels'.

Technology will continue to operate quietly in the background, enabling seamless service. But the lasting impression for guests will come from the warmth, attentiveness and empathy of the people who welcome them.

As the hospitality sector continues to evolve in India's technology capital, the balance between digital innovation and human care may define the next chapter of guest experiences.
