Amid ongoing conflict, families across Iran stepped outdoors to celebrate Sizdah Bedar, a traditional festival marking the end of Nowruz, reflecting resilience in the face of adversity.

Thousands gathered at parks, including Pardisan Park in Tehran, to spend time with loved ones despite the backdrop of continued bombardment and rising tensions in the region.

Sizdah Bedar, observed on the 13th day of the Persian New Year, symbolises letting go of misfortune by spending time in nature. This year's celebrations, however, were marked by a sense of caution as sounds of nearby strikes echoed across parts of the capital.

Even so, families chose to maintain tradition, finding moments of peace and normalcy during uncertain times.

At the Tehran University of Medical Sciences' Children's Medical Center, doctors and interns organised a small celebration for children unable to leave the hospital.

Pooling their own resources, healthcare workers arranged activities such as painting, games, music, and costume performances to lift the spirits of young patients and their families.

Medical staff highlighted the emotional strain faced by both children and caregivers during the conflict. Many families remain under stress while managing illness alongside the uncertainty of war.

Doctors noted that while the hospital has not been directly hit, nearby strikes have caused anxiety, and some families have relocated children to other cities for treatment.

Despite reduced patient numbers, emergency admissions have recently increased, raising concerns about future pressures on healthcare facilities.

Still, healthcare workers remain committed to their duties, striving to provide care and comfort. The celebrations, though modest, served as a powerful reminder of hope, resilience, and the enduring spirit of community even in times of conflict.
