Jharkhand woman found dead in rented Bengaluru house

News Karnataka 1 week ago

A 34-year-old woman from Jharkhand was found dead in her rented house in Bengaluru under mysterious circumstances, police said.

The deceased was identified as Pooja Dutta, a native of Dhanbad who had been living alone in the city.

The incident came to light after neighbours noticed a strong foul smell coming from the rented house in Adugodi and alerted police.

Officers reached the spot, broke open the locked door and found her body in a semi-decomposed condition inside the house. Police suspect the death may have occurred two to three days earlier.

Police said the circumstances of the death have raised several questions. Reports said the body was found unclothed, while torn papers were scattered across the room.

An old company identity card was also recovered from the spot. Authorities said the woman had worked in a private company and had reportedly left her job in March 2025.

According to the house owner, Pooja had been staying at the rented premises for the past three years.

The landlord also told investigators that a young man often visited her and that arguments were sometimes heard, though the reason was not known.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Officials said call records, social contacts and forensic evidence are being examined to determine the exact cause of death
