Bengaluru: A 19-year-old nursing student from Kerala was found dead in his hostel room near Electronics City in Bengaluru on Wednesday, with police registering a case of unnatural death.

The family has alleged harassment by college staff as a possible reason behind the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Adhityan PA, a second-year BSc nursing student staying in a hostel under the Hebbagodi police station limits.

According to police, Adhityan's roommates discovered him hanging from a ceiling fan around 12.30 pm and alerted authorities. He was declared dead at the scene.

Officials have initiated an investigation and said further details will emerge after preliminary inquiries and post-mortem examination.

Adhityan's parents have alleged that their son died by suicide due to harassment by members of the nursing college staff.

In his complaint, Adhityan's father stated that about 20 days before the incident, his son had informed him about an issue involving hostel authorities. According to him, some of Adhityan's roommates were reportedly caught by staff over alleged drug use.

Although Adhityan was not involved, he and others were reportedly warned by hostel authorities. The family suspects that this incident may have caused distress and contributed to his extreme step.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are examining all angles, including the allegations made by the family.

Officials said statements are being recorded from hostel staff, students, and other relevant persons to understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Authorities have emphasised that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the completion of the investigation and post-mortem report.

The incident has raised concerns over student welfare and hostel conditions, with calls for a thorough and transparent inquiry.

The death of the young nursing student has sparked grief and concern, with his family alleging harassment as a possible factor. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the case and ensure accountability if any wrongdoing is found.
