The flood-prone K.R. Circle underpass in Bengaluru was submerged once again following heavy rains, raising fresh concerns over civic preparedness and public safety.
The underpass, which had earlier claimed the life of a 23-year-old techie in 2023, was inundated after intense rainfall on April 29. Waterlogging rendered the stretch unusable, prompting authorities to barricade the area and restrict movement.
The recurrence of flooding at the same location has reignited fears among residents and commuters, who have long flagged the underpass as a high-risk zone during heavy rains.
Despite past incidents, locals say the issue remains unresolved.
Officials from the Greater Bengaluru Authority are yet to initiate immediate remedial action, reportedly waiting for water levels to recede before taking further steps.
This approach has drawn criticism, with many questioning the lack of preventive measures despite repeated warnings.
Urban experts and residents have emphasised the need for permanent solutions, including improved drainage systems and structural redesign, to prevent recurring flooding.
The incident once again highlights Bengaluru's ongoing struggle with urban flooding and infrastructure gaps, especially during intense pre-monsoon spells.
As rains continue, concerns remain over whether lessons from past tragedies are being adequately addressed.
