Udupi: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Mangaluru Division, has announced special Dasara package tours from Udupi to help visitors travel to temples and tourist attractions during the Dasara season.
The package tours will operate from October 11 to 20, covering two routes that include prominent religious and tourist destinations in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts.
The special services will depart from the Udupi City Transport Bus Stand every morning and return to Udupi on the same day. The fares have been fixed at Rs 500 for adults and Rs 400 for children aged between six and 12 years.
KSRTC has also arranged advance seat reservation facilities for the package tours, allowing passengers to plan their trips in advance during the festival period.
Two routes planned for Dasara season
KSRTC has prepared two separate package tour routes from Udupi. Both services are designed as one-day tours, allowing passengers to visit several temples and return to Udupi on the same evening.
The first route will cover religious destinations in Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts before returning to Udupi. The second route will focus mainly on temples in Udupi district and the Kollur region.
The services are intended to provide convenient public transport for devotees and tourists who wish to visit multiple destinations during the Dasara period without arranging separate vehicles or planning individual bus connections.
First package tour covers Kodyadka and Sringeri
Under the first package tour, buses will leave the Udupi City Transport Bus Stand at 7.30 am.
The service will first travel to Sri Annapoorneshwari Temple at Kodyadka. From there, the bus will proceed towards Sri Sharadamba Temple at Sringeri, travelling via the S.K. border.
The itinerary will also include Rishyasringeshwara Temple at Kigga and Hariharapura Math.
The final destination on the route will be Sri Anantha Padmanabha Temple at Perdoor, after which the bus will return to the Udupi City Transport Bus Stand.
The first package tour is scheduled to reach Udupi at around 8 pm, making it a full-day pilgrimage and sightseeing service.
The route gives passengers an opportunity to visit temples located across different parts of the region in a single trip.
Second route covers Kollur and surrounding temples
The second package tour will also depart from the Udupi City Transport Bus Stand at 7.30 am.
This route will cover several important temples in Udupi district and the Kollur region.
The itinerary includes Neelavara Sri Mahishamardini Temple, Mandarthi Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple, Kamalashile Sri Brahmi Durgaparameshwari Temple and Saukoor Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple.
The bus will then proceed to Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple, one of the major pilgrimage centres in the region, followed by Maranakatte Sri Brahmalingeshwara Temple.
The service will return to the Udupi City Transport Bus Stand at around 6.30 pm.
The second route is therefore slightly shorter in duration than the first package tour while covering several well-known temples in and around the Udupi region.
Fare fixed at Rs 500 for adults
KSRTC has kept the fare uniform for both package tour routes.
Adults will be charged Rs 500, while children between six and 12 years will be charged Rs 400.
The fixed fare allows passengers to visit all the destinations listed on the selected route without having to arrange separate fares for each leg of the journey.
For families travelling during the Dasara holidays, the package services could provide an alternative to private vehicles, particularly for those planning to visit several temples on the same day.
The services are also expected to benefit devotees who prefer organised group travel and do not want to coordinate multiple bus connections.
Advance booking facility available
KSRTC has arranged advance seat reservation for both package tours.
Passengers interested in using the services can make enquiries with the Udupi KSRTC unit and booking counters before their planned travel date.
According to the KSRTC release, the Udupi unit manager can be contacted at 7760995407, while the Udupi Unit can be reached at 7760994451. The Udupi advance booking counter can be contacted at 9663266400.
Advance booking could help passengers secure seats during the Dasara period, when demand for travel to prominent temples and tourist destinations is expected to increase.
Package tours timed with Dasara holidays
The special services have been scheduled from October 11 to 20, covering the period leading up to the main Dasara celebrations.
Dasara is an important festival season in Karnataka, with people travelling to temples and cultural destinations across the State. Udupi and the surrounding coastal region attract large numbers of devotees throughout the year, and demand for organised pilgrimage services can increase during festival periods.
By introducing dedicated package tours, KSRTC is providing passengers with a fixed itinerary and return journey from Udupi on the same day.
The initiative also allows the corporation to connect several religious destinations through a single service instead of requiring passengers to depend on separate public transport services.
Services connect multiple religious destinations
Both routes focus heavily on temples and religious centres, reflecting the demand for pilgrimage travel during Dasara.
The first route connects Kodyadka, Sringeri, Kigga, Hariharapura and Perdoor, covering destinations spread across multiple districts.
The second route remains more concentrated around Udupi and neighbouring areas, connecting Neelavara, Mandarthi, Kamalashile, Saukoor, Kollur and Maranakatte.
The two itineraries therefore offer passengers a choice based on the destinations they want to visit.
Travellers can select the first route for a longer excursion towards Sringeri or choose the second for a temple circuit covering Udupi and Kollur.
KSRTC encourages public to use package services
The senior divisional controller of the Mangaluru KSRTC Division has appealed to the public to make use of the special package tour services.
The initiative is part of KSRTC’s efforts to provide additional travel options during the Dasara season.
For passengers, the main advantage is the convenience of travelling to multiple destinations on a planned itinerary and returning to Udupi on the same day.
With advance booking available, travellers can also make arrangements ahead of time rather than depending on last-minute transport availability.
Conclusion
KSRTC’s Mangaluru Division will operate special Dasara package tours from Udupi between October 11 and 20, covering two temple circuits across the coastal and Malnad regions. The services will depart at 7.30 am, with fares fixed at Rs 500 for adults and Rs 400 for children aged six to 12. Advance reservations are available for both routes.
