A 33-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attacking a woman with a knife in Bengaluru's Electronics City area after a dispute between the two escalated, police said.

The accused, S Davit, was taken into custody on Wednesday following the incident that occurred on Tuesday night near Platinum Apartment in Electronics City.

The victim, Simngirhui Halam, 27, is a beautician originally from Assam who currently works in Bengaluru.

According to police, the woman came in contact with Davit through Facebook in 2025 while she was staying in Pune. The two reportedly began communicating frequently over the phone and later developed a relationship.

Investigators said Davit later travelled to Bengaluru and began staying with the woman in a rented house in Tirupalya after informing her that he was married but living separately from his wife.

The two eventually decided to live together. However, police said the relationship soon turned troubled.

Police stated that Davit allegedly consumed alcohol frequently, quarrelled with the woman, demanded money and threatened to kill her during their time together.

Around a week before the attack, Simngirhui reportedly moved out of the rented house and started staying with her sister at an apartment on Neeladri Nagar Road in Electronics City.

According to the police complaint, the incident took place around 9.30 pm on Tuesday when the woman returned to the apartment building.

As she stepped out of the lift on the fifth floor, she reportedly found Davit waiting in the corridor with a knife. When she attempted to escape, he allegedly held the knife to her neck with the intention of attacking her.

During the struggle, the woman sustained injuries to her finger and neck while trying to defend herself.

Residents alerted authorities and she was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.

Based on the victim's statement recorded at the hospital, Electronic City Police Station registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused.

Police subsequently traced Davit, arrested him and produced him before a court. He has been remanded to judicial custody following interrogation, officials said.

Authorities said further investigation into the case is ongoing.
