Man booked for allegedly harassing woman with obscene messages

Man booked for allegedly harassing woman with obscene messages

News Karnataka 2 days ago

The High Grounds police have registered a case against a man accused of repeatedly harassing a 29-year-old woman in Vasanthnagar by visiting her residence, making inappropriate remarks and later sending obscene messages through the messaging platform Telegram.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant, an employee of a private company, alleged that the accused, who identified himself as Mr Khan, repeatedly visited her residence between May 25 and May 30.

Repeated visits caused distress

The woman told police that the man knocked on her door several times and allegedly offered massage services while making inappropriate and vulgar remarks.

Despite her refusal and lack of interest, the accused allegedly continued his behaviour, causing distress and concern. Unable to stop the harassment, the woman approached the police and filed a complaint.

Obscene messages sent online

Investigators said the accused allegedly continued to contact the woman through Telegram, sending objectionable messages even though the two had never met before.

According to the complaint, the woman had no prior acquaintance with the accused and was unaware of how he obtained her contact details.

Police suspect that he may have accessed her information through social media platforms before initiating contact.

Police launch investigation

A senior police officer said preliminary investigations indicate that the accused may be working as a CCTV surveillance technician. However, officials are still verifying his identity and role as part of the investigation.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the High Grounds police have registered a case and begun efforts to trace the accused.

Focus on women’s safety

The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding online harassment and the misuse of personal information obtained through digital platforms.

Police have urged citizens, particularly women, to report instances of stalking, harassment and cyber abuse promptly so that timely action can be taken.

Further investigation is underway.
