Namma Metro gets new train, Pink Line rollout gains pace

News Karnataka 2 weeks ago

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has received the fourth train for its upcoming Pink Line, marking steady progress towards the corridor's partial launch expected in May.

The six-coach train, manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), arrived at the Kothanur depot on Bannerghatta Road from its New Thippasandra facility earlier this week. Officials confirmed that the train has been moved to the Inspection Bay Line (IBL) for detailed technical and safety checks.

These evaluations are essential to ensure compliance with operational standards before passenger services can begin.

BEML had rolled out the prototype train for the Pink Line in December 2025, followed by two additional train deliveries in February. With the fourth train now in place, BMRCL is gradually strengthening its fleet for the new corridor.

Authorities are also in the process of securing statutory approvals required for the prototype train, a key step before commercial operations commence.

BMRCL plans to open a 7.5-kilometre elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Taverekere by May. This section is expected to significantly enhance connectivity in Bengaluru's southern regions, easing traffic congestion and improving daily commute options.

Meanwhile, Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) has dispatched a new Driverless Train Grade (DTG) train for use on the Purple and Green lines. The train, currently en route to the Peenya depot, is expected to arrive later this month.

Once inducted, these trains—along with an earlier prototype delivered in January 2025—will be deployed to reduce overcrowding, particularly during peak hours.

Currently, the Purple and Green lines together operate 57 trains. The addition of new rolling stock is expected to improve frequency and passenger comfort across the network.

With multiple train deliveries and infrastructure work progressing simultaneously, BMRCL's efforts signal a major push towards expanding Bengaluru's metro network and strengthening urban mobility.
