Railways announce partial cancellations for track maintenance

News Karnataka 1 month ago

Mangaluru: Railway authorities have announced changes in several train services to facilitate scheduled track maintenance works in the Thiruvananthapuram division.

According to an official release issued on March 10, 2026, some trains will face partial cancellations, while the origin of certain services has been temporarily changed on specific dates.

Officials said the changes are part of routine infrastructure maintenance aimed at ensuring the safety and efficiency of railway operations. Passengers travelling on affected routes have been advised to check revised schedules before planning their journeys.

As part of the maintenance schedule, several long-distance trains operating to and from Thiruvananthapuram will be short-terminated before reaching their usual destination.

Train No. 16605 Mangaluru Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Ernad Express, scheduled to depart from Mangaluru Central on March 12, 2026, will be short-terminated at Kollam Junction. The train will not operate between Kollam Junction and Thiruvananthapuram Central on that date.

Similarly, Train No. 12695 Dr MGR Chennai Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Superfast Express, which will commence its journey from Chennai on March 13, 2026, will be short-terminated at Kottayam. The service will remain partially cancelled between Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram Central.

Another major service affected is Train No. 12626 New Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram Central Kerala Superfast Express. The train, departing from New Delhi on March 10, 2026, will be short-terminated at Thiruvananthapuram North instead of its usual terminal station at Thiruvananthapuram Central. As a result, the train will not operate between Thiruvananthapuram North and Thiruvananthapuram Central.

Railway officials said these temporary arrangements are necessary to facilitate the maintenance work without disrupting the entire service route.

In addition to partial cancellations, the Railways have also announced temporary changes in the starting points of two return services.

Train No. 16606 Thiruvananthapuram Central-Mangaluru Central Ernad Express, scheduled to depart on March 13, 2026, will originate from Kollam Junction instead of Thiruvananthapuram Central. The train will depart from Kollam Junction at its scheduled time of 4.38 am.

Due to this change, the train service will remain partially cancelled between Thiruvananthapuram Central and Kollam Junction.

Likewise, Train No. 12696 Thiruvananthapuram Central-Dr MGR Chennai Central Superfast Express, scheduled for March 14, 2026, will originate from Kottayam instead of Thiruvananthapuram Central. The train will depart from Kottayam at its scheduled time of 8.05 pm.

For this service, the section between Thiruvananthapuram Central and Kottayam will remain partially cancelled.

Railway officials stated that periodic track maintenance and infrastructure upgrades are essential to ensure safe train operations and improve service reliability.

Such maintenance works often require temporary changes in train schedules, including short termination of services or alterations in origin and destination stations.

Authorities said passengers travelling on the affected dates should verify train schedules through official railway enquiry platforms or station announcements.

Railway authorities have urged passengers to stay updated about the revised schedules and plan their journeys accordingly.

Travellers can obtain the latest information about train timings, cancellations, and route changes through railway enquiry counters, official railway websites, and mobile applications.

Officials emphasised that the temporary inconvenience caused by these changes is necessary to carry out critical maintenance work and ensure long-term safety and smooth functioning of train services.
