Roshni Nilaya hosts national conference on balancing human values with AI

Mangaluru: The School of Social Work (Autonomous), Roshni Nilaya, hosted a two-day national conference titled STUNA 2026, focusing on the theme 'HR 5.0: People, Purpose, and Possibilities,' highlighting the need to balance human values with artificial intelligence in modern workplaces.

The conference, organised by the Human Resource Management Forum in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), began on April 6 and brought together experts and participants from across the country.

Inaugurating the conference, Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Dr. P. L. Dharma noted that human resource management has become increasingly challenging in an era shaped by artificial intelligence and sustainability.

He emphasised that HR professionals must develop strong interpersonal skills, maintain discipline, and foster cooperative and approachable work environments to remain relevant. He also highlighted the growing perception of artificial intelligence as empathetic and inclusive, while stressing the continued importance of human intelligence.

Guest of Honour Rev. Fr. Vinish Augustine spoke about the growing influence of artificial intelligence on human interactions. He cautioned that while technology is transforming organisations, the essence of human connection must not be lost.

He stressed the importance of cooperation, empathy, and meaningful relationships in ensuring harmony within organisations and society.

Dr. Steevan Pinto, Lead - HR at MRPL, underlined the importance of adaptability, continuous learning, and employee engagement. He highlighted the need to build inclusive and resilient organisational cultures that strike a balance between efficiency and empathy.

Dr. Ajith Sankar, Consultant to the Government of India, spoke on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in HR. Introducing the concept of HR 5.0, he described HR leaders as ethical guardians who integrate technology with human values to build future-ready workplaces.

Presiding over the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Cecilia F. Goveas noted that HR professionals today play a broader role that goes beyond employee management to include organisational development and social impact.

Prof. K. V. Sebastian, Head of the Department of HR at Roshni Nilaya, highlighted that HR stands at the intersection of technology and humanity, requiring a careful balance between data-driven approaches and core values such as empathy and inclusion.

The conference witnessed participation from around 200 delegates representing various institutions across the country, providing a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and collaboration.

The national conference at Roshni Nilaya underscored the evolving role of human resource management in the age of artificial intelligence, emphasising that sustainable progress lies in balancing technological advancements with human values.
