A tragic accident claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy in Hosur after his shirt got caught in a lathe machine at an industrial unit in the SIPCOT area.
The deceased has been identified as R Mohanraj, a resident of Tirupattur district.
According to police, Mohanraj had come to stay with relatives at Rajaji Nagar in Hosur a few days ago. On Tuesday afternoon, he visited his uncle's workplace while workers were on a lunch break.
During this time, the boy reportedly attempted to operate a lathe machine. His shirt got entangled in the rotating equipment, pulling him into the machine.
When workers returned after lunch, they found Mohanraj stuck in the machine and immediately rushed him to nearby hospitals.
He was first taken to two private hospitals near Mookandapalli and later shifted to the Government Krishnagiri District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Authorities clarified that Mohanraj was not employed at the factory and had only been visiting the premises at the time of the incident.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
Officials from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) have taken note of the incident and are expected to inspect the factory.
