Two people, including a young student, lost their lives in separate electrocution incidents amid heavy rains that lashed Bengaluru, highlighting serious safety concerns during extreme weather.
Syed Sufiyan (21), a resident of Yarab Nagar in KG Halli, was electrocuted near the site of the recent wall collapse at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar.
According to family members, he had gone to park his bike during the rain when he came into contact with a live wire, reportedly carrying current from a nearby electric pole. He had visited Commercial Street with his mother at the time.
His body was later shifted to the hospital for post-mortem, and Shivajinagar police have registered a case.
In a separate incident, Raghu (35), a daily wage worker from JD Mara in Mico Layout, died after being electrocuted near Sarakki bus stop, close to Vega City Mall.
The incident occurred around 8.30 pm, with police suspecting negligence related to exposed electrical infrastructure. A case has been registered by JP Nagar police.
These incidents come amid widespread disruption caused by heavy rainfall in the city, which led to waterlogging, fallen trees, and multiple accidents.
Electrocution during rains remains a recurring hazard in urban areas, often linked to exposed wires, damaged infrastructure, and poor maintenance.
