Vendor pushed off train dies after cigarette refusal

News Karnataka 3 weeks ago

A shocking incident has come to light in Uttar Pradesh, where a 28-year-old train vendor lost his life after allegedly being pushed off a moving train following a minor altercation.

The deceased, identified as Rahul Chaurasia, earned his livelihood by selling roasted gram on trains.

According to officials, Rahul had boarded the Kanpur-Chitrakoot Intercity train from Fatehpur. At around 9.30 am, near Manouri railway station, a youth allegedly asked him for a cigarette.

When Rahul refused, the situation reportedly escalated. The accused allegedly abused him and pushed him out of the moving train, leading to severe injuries.

Rahul fell near Chillashahbazi village under Charwa police station limits. Local residents alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF), which rushed him to a Community Health Centre in Chayal.

Despite efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The incident sparked outrage after reports emerged that his body remained on a stretcher outside the health centre for nearly six hours.

Officials said the delay occurred due to confusion between Charwa and Pipri police stations over jurisdiction. Both stations were informed around 11 am, but action was reportedly delayed.

Charwa police eventually reached the hospital at around 5.15 pm and took charge of the situation. The body was later sent for post-mortem after identification.

Inspector Mahesh Kumar stated that the case is being investigated from all angles. A video purportedly showing the incident has surfaced on social media and is currently being verified.

Authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken once the inquiry is completed.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about passenger safety and the vulnerability of onboard vendors, who often work in challenging and unregulated conditions.

It also highlights the need for better coordination between law enforcement agencies to ensure timely response in critical situations.
