A visibly grief-stricken Rohith Roy, son of Confident Group Chairman Dr CJ Roy, on Sunday expressed shock and disbelief over his father's sudden death, saying the family is still struggling to understand what led to the tragedy.
'My father was a great man. We are truly shocked by what led him to reach this point. None of us ever imagined something like this would happen,' Rohith told reporters.
Thanking the media for maintaining dignity during a painful time, he added, 'I want to thank the media for standing by our family and for the respect shown — both when he was alive and now during his funeral arrangements.'
Responding to questions about possible pressure or stress, Rohith said his father had never shared any such concerns with the family.
'No, he never mentioned anything about stress or pressure to us. He never spoke about any such issues at home,' he said.
The family, he added, will issue an official statement in the coming days. A press conference has been scheduled for February 3 at 2.30 pm (IST).
Earlier, visuals of Dr Roy's wife Lina Roy and children arriving from Dubai and breaking down at the Bowring Hospital post-mortem centre had circulated widely. They were accompanied by Mohammed Nalapad.
Dr Roy, a Dubai-based businessman and founder of the Confident Group, was found dead at his Richmond Circle office on Friday and was declared dead at a nearby hospital. The incident occurred amid ongoing Income Tax searches.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said preliminary findings indicate a gunshot injury, and that forensic teams, including SOCO and FSL, are examining the scene. A team from Kerala has also joined the probe.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said a high-level investigation has been ordered, assuring that the truth will emerge.
Dr Roy's funeral was held at Casagrand, Bannerghatta, as per his wishes. Public homage arrangements have been made at the White House in Koramangala, owned by his brother CJ Babu Joseph.
