Hyderabad: A police constable's quick thinking and medical training saved the life of a 44-year-old electricity worker who suffered a massive electric shock in the Karwan area on Thursday.

The incident occurred near the Kummarwadi Hanuman Temple while Raju Naik, an assistant lineman with the Karwan electricity office, was performing repairs on an electrical pole.

What was the incident?

During the work, Naik accidentally came into contact with a live high-tension wire. The impact caused him to sustain a severe shock and fall to the ground, where he instantly lost consciousness and his pulse dropped.

Constable B Suresh of the Tappachabutra Police Station, who was on patrolling duty nearby, rushed to the scene after noticing the commotion. Finding the worker unresponsive and not breathing, Suresh immediately initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

The constable performed continuous chest compressions, which successfully revived Naik's pulse and restored his breathing on-site. Following the emergency first aid, Suresh, with the help of locals, shifted the injured worker to a nearby hospital for advanced treatment.

Constable Suresh's intervention in 'golden hour' saved life

Medical professionals treating Naik stated that the constable's immediate intervention within the 'golden hour' was the deciding factor in his survival. Naik is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition and out of danger.

G Balakrishna, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tappachabutra PS, highly commended Constable Suresh for his bravery and presence of mind.

"His swift responsiveness and community-policing spirit saved a human life during a critical emergency," the SHO said in a statement. The incident has drawn widespread appreciation for the Hyderabad City Police, highlighting the importance of first-aid and CPR training for frontline personnel.
