Hyderabad: Unidentified persons stole two charging guns along with cables from a public electric vehicle (EV) charging station near KBR Park Gate No. 4 in Banjara Hills, police said.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
Theft detected during inspection
The theft came to light on June 7 during a routine inspection by officials of Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TG REDCO).
T. Venugopal, a manager with the agency, lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police after discovering that two charging guns had gone missing from the station.
Part of Hyderabad's EV infrastructure
TG REDCO has set up 60-kW dual DC fast-charging stations at various locations in the city under an agreement with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to promote electric mobility. The KBR Park facility is one among them.
Charger went offline on June 6
According to the complaint, officials found that the charger had been disconnected in the early hours of June 6. A subsequent inspection confirmed that the charging guns and cables had been stolen.
Police begin probe
Based on the complaint, Banjara Hills police registered a case and launched an investigation to identify the culprits and recover the stolen equipment. The incident has raised concerns over the security of public EV charging infrastructure in the city.
