Hyderabad, June 4: A major fire broke out in a commercial complex near Maitrivanam in Ameerpet on Thursday afternoon, reducing nearly 20 shops to ashes and triggering panic in one of Hyderabad's busiest commercial hubs.
Thick smoke billowed into the sky as flames rapidly engulfed the three-storey KSR Shopping Complex, located barely 100 feet from the Ameerpet Metro Station. No casualties were reported, and officials said a major tragedy was averted due to the swift response of firefighters.
Blaze Spreads Within Seconds
According to Madhura Nagar police, the fire erupted at the KSR Shopping Complex in West Srinivas Nagar Colony and spread rapidly through the building. Shops located on the first and second floors were completely gutted.
Authorities suspect the presence of highly combustible materials, including clothing and other merchandise, helped the flames spread quickly across the structure.
Nearly 20 Shops Damaged
The commercial complex housed a variety of establishments, including around ten travel offices, a helmet showroom and five coaching centres. Preliminary estimates suggest that nearly 20 shops suffered extensive damage in the incident.
Business owners and employees rushed out of the premises as flames and smoke engulfed the building.
Short Circuit Suspected
Preliminary investigations indicate that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, officials said the exact cause would be confirmed only after a detailed inquiry.
Police stated that no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.
Ten Fire Engines Deployed
Fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot immediately after receiving an alert. Ten fire engines were pressed into service to contain the blaze.
Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation under control. Cooling operations continued late into the evening to prevent any possibility of reignition.
Panic Near Metro Station
The incident caused alarm among commuters and residents as the shopping complex is located close to the busy Ameerpet Metro Station. Thick plumes of smoke were visible from several kilometres away, drawing large crowds to the area.
People from nearby buildings evacuated as a precaution while emergency teams secured the surroundings.
Traffic Chaos in Commercial Hub
The fire severely affected traffic movement on the Ameerpet-S.R. Nagar stretch, leading to long vehicle queues and congestion during peak hours.
Traffic police diverted vehicles through alternative routes and temporarily suspended city bus services in the affected zone to facilitate firefighting operations.
Hyderabad Police advised motorists to avoid the area and cooperate with traffic personnel until normal traffic flow is restored.
Loss Assessment Underway
Officials are yet to assess the total extent of property loss caused by the fire. Police and fire department authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident and are examining the circumstances that led to the blaze.
