Amaravati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across parts of Andhra Pradesh over the next five days as conditions remain favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon.
Weather conditions to support monsoon's advance
According to the Meteorological Centre in Amaravati, the northern limit of the monsoon currently extends through parts of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions.
Weather conditions are expected to support its further advance into additional parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Bay of Bengal during the next two to three days.
Weather systems influencing rainfall
The weather office said a trough extending from east Vidarbha to south Kerala across Telangana, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu persists up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. Another trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over east Vidarbha to south Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Telangana has weakened.
Meanwhile, an upper-air trough stretching from a cyclonic circulation over the east-central and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal to the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lanka coast continues to influence weather conditions over the region.
Heavy rainfall likely on June 1 and 2

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated places across Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema during the first five days of the forecast period.
