Hyderabad: In a major push towards sustainable infrastructure in the entertainment industry, Allu Cinemas, Kokapet (Narsingi), has joined hands with Freyr Energy, one of India's leading rooftop solar companies, to install a 727 kW solar power system at the multiplex facility.
Largest in the region
Built with an investment of Rs 2.27 crore, the project is among the largest solar installations for a cinema complex in the region, highlighting the growing adoption of renewable energy in commercial entertainment spaces.
What is the project's objective?
The newly commissioned solar plant is expected to cater to nearly 60 per cent of the cinema's overall power consumption.
The initiative is projected to bring down annual electricity expenditure from around Rs 52 lakh to nearly Rs 5 lakh, resulting in estimated yearly savings of Rs 77-80 lakh. The project demonstrates the strong economic and environmental benefits of large-scale solar adoption.
Peak efficiency with automation
The installation is also expected to help reduce nearly 750 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year. To maintain peak efficiency, the solar panels are equipped with an automated high-pressure sprinkler cleaning system, ensuring optimal performance with minimal manual maintenance.
Speaking about the initiative, Radhika Choudary, Co-Founder of Freyr Energy, said, "As sustainability becomes increasingly important, solar energy is emerging as a smart solution for energy-intensive spaces like movie theatres. By adopting solar, cinemas can significantly reduce dependence on conventional power sources and lower operational costs. We are delighted to support an initiative that makes entertainment more sustainable."
Allu Aravind of Allu Cinemas said, "This is a meaningful step for us. Through the solarisation of Allu Cineplex with Freyr Energy, we are integrating clean energy into our operations practically and efficiently. Cinemas consume large amounts of power, and this move will help optimise electricity usage while improving long-term operational efficiency. It is a future-ready initiative aligned with both sustainability goals and business efficiency."
