Hyderabad: A routine ticket inspection by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) enforcement officials in Sangareddy district turned violent on Friday morning.
A conductor allegedly attacked checking staff and incited passengers to join him, reportedly to conceal a ticketing violation.
The corporation has ordered stringent departmental and legal action against the accused. A case has been registered against the conductor and the passengers involved.
Violation detected during surprise check
The incident occurred around 8:30 am. when a headquarters enforcement squad, led by in-charge TTI Peddadoddi Yesaiah and TTI V Prakash, was conducting inspections on the Zaheerabad-Narayanakhed route.
During checks near Kappad village in Jharasangam mandal, the team intercepted a Narayanakhed depot bus (No. TG15-Z-0082).
Officials found that the conductor, Devasoth Vasanth, had collected Rs 20 from a passenger but failed to issue a ticket, prompting them to initiate action as per rules.
Heated argument escalates into assault by footwear
As officials moved to issue a charge memo, the conductor allegedly entered a heated argument and obstructed them from discharging their duties.
In a dramatic escalation, he is said to have provoked passengers against the checking staff and physically attacked the officials using his footwear.
He also reportedly snatched official documents, including the charge memo and MTD 353 book, further aggravating the situation.
Officials sustain injuries
The assault left in charge TTI Yesaiah with injuries to his left-hand finger, while TTI V Prakash suffered a serious injury to his forehead. The injured officials later approached the police.
Based on a complaint lodged by Yesaiah at Raikode Police Station, a case (Crime No. 46/2026) has been registered against the conductor and passengers involved.
Police invoked Section 121(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with obstructing and assaulting a public servant on duty.
Authorities are currently investigating the role of passengers and the sequence of events leading to the assault.
'Zero tolerance for indiscipline': MD warns staff
Reacting strongly, TGSRTC Managing Director Y Nagi Reddy condemned the incident and made it clear that acts of indiscipline will not be tolerated.
He described the attack, allegedly carried out to escape accountability for a ticket violation, as a serious and unforgivable offence.
He cautioned that any assault on staff performing official duties would attract strict legal consequences and urged employees to maintain professionalism and a cooperative work culture.
