Hyderabad: Two police personnel attached to Bowenpally Police Station in Hyderabad were caught red-handed by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday while allegedly accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe from a complainant for relaxing bail conditions and extending police cooperation in a criminal case.

Bribe linked to BNS case

The accused were identified as Sub-Inspector M Kiran Nandita and Police Constable B Vijay Kumar of Bowenpally Police Station. According to ACB officials, the complainant was involved in a case registered under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The officers allegedly demanded money in return for easing the bail conditions imposed on the complainant and assuring favourable police cooperation till the case was finalised.

Constable allegedly collected money earlier

ACB officials said the police constable had earlier collected Rs 10,000 from the complainant and later demanded an additional amount. Following a complaint, the ACB organised a trap operation on Wednesday afternoon.

During the operation, the accused allegedly accepted Rs 30,000 from the complainant.

Cash recovered from SI's vehicle

The tainted cash was recovered from the dicky of the SI's Activa scooter parked inside the Bowenpally Police Station premises, officials said.

The ACB stated that both officials abused their official position and acted dishonestly to obtain an undue advantage from the complainant.

Following the trap, both the SI and the constable were taken into custody. They are being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally for judicial remand.

The identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons. Further investigation is underway.

ACB asks public to report bribery

The Anti-Corruption Bureau urged citizens to report any demand for bribes by public servants through its toll-free helpline number 1064.

Complaints can also be lodged through WhatsApp, Facebook and X platforms operated by Telangana ACB officials.
