An Indian mobile shop was the centre of a horrific incident after this youngster got injured following an explosion from a phone battery.
CCTV footage from the shop revealed a shocking scene where the boy, who was standing next to a mobile shop counter, took the battery inside his mouth.
What followed later was a jaw-dropping explosion after this boy ended up chewing the lithium-based phone battery from the side. Moments after biting the battery, the youngster was reportedly left injured as the fire from the strong explosion caused burns.
Boy Suffers Burns After Battery Explosion
"Shocking incident inside a mobile shop when a boy began chewing on a Lithium Phone Battery. Within seconds, the battery exploded, leaving him seriously injured. The injured boy was rushed for medical treatment," wrote a person sharing the video online. Later in the clip, one could also see the mobile shop owner panicking in fear for his life and throwing the burnt battery away.
The mobile phone battery is a sealed container, featuring concentrated chemicals and an electrical charge. Damaging the casing with the mouth can be seriously harmful to one's oral tissues, as the sealed system immediately fails and releases its internal components.
The batteries contain a highly concentrated and corrosive substance - electrolyte. The electrolyte itself contains alkaline substances, which can cause chemical burns on contact. Among the common phone batteries, the lithium-based ones are believed to be at a high risk of such damage and exploding.

The online community lambasted the youngster for making such a terrible mistake and putting his as well as others' lives at risk by biting a lithium phone battery.
"Lithium stores high energy unlike other batteries. Do not play with it," commented a person.
Someone else said, "Not shocking - stupid! Plain stupid."
"Why would anyone chew a battery?" asked another user.
"Is he mad? How can he eat the battery?" wondered one more individual.

The absolutely bizarre act of the individual not only caused injuries but also put the safety of the mobile shop owner and others present inside at risk. The fire from the explosion could have easily come into contact with the electrical products inside and led to more serious damage.
