Four Parathas, A 67-Year-Old 'Chachi', And A Secret That Shocked Delhi Police

News18 3 months ago

Crime in Delhi often wears many disguises, but this case stunned even seasoned officers. Delhi Police recently arrested a 67-year-old woman whose double life defied every stereotype.

Who Is 'Chachi' Rambiri?

Known affectionately as 'Chachi', Rambiri appeared to be an ordinary elderly woman, her head modestly covered, blending easily into crowds. In reality, she was supplying illegal weapons to hardened criminals across the Delhi-NCR.

According to Delhi Police, she is the oldest female arms smuggler ever arrested in the capital.

An Unlikely Entry Into The World Of Crime

Rambiri hails from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Investigators are now probing how and when she entered organised crime, and how long she managed to operate without raising suspicion.

What fascinated the police most was her method. Rambiri strictly followed a 'travel light' routine. She never carried heavy luggage, just four parathas and a bottle of water. Travelling by train like any other elderly woman, she attracted no attention, while concealing deadly weapons in her clothes or a small bag.

Police revealed that Rambiri frequently travelled from Meerut to Khargone and Indore in Madhya Pradesh. Khargone is notorious for illegal arms manufacturing. From there, she would return to Delhi or Meerut to supply weapons, quietly eating the parathas she packed from home along the way.

Age As Her Greatest Shield

According to officers, Rambiri was selected by the syndicate precisely because of her age. Security checks usually focus on young or suspicious-looking men, rarely suspecting a 67-year-old woman. Her calm demeanour and simplicity helped her evade law enforcement for years.

Rambiri's run ended on January 9, 2026. Acting on a tip-off, Delhi Police's Special Cell and local police laid a trap near Shakur Basti railway station. When they searched her belongings, they were stunned to find four sophisticated weapons and three magazines. She was allegedly bringing them from Khargone to supply a gang in Delhi-NCR.

Delhi's Oldest Female Arms Smuggler

While women have been arrested for arms smuggling before, Rambiri's age set her apart. Police are now investigating how many weapons she supplied and how deep her involvement runs.

Initial investigations suggest Rambiri was a key link in a major arms network based in Meerut. Her role connected illegal manufacturing hubs in Madhya Pradesh with criminal gangs in Delhi-NCR.

A Major Breakthrough For Police

Senior officials say her arrest is a significant success. It highlights a troubling trend: criminal networks increasingly using elderly people and women to avoid detection.

Rambiri is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation. Authorities hope her questioning will expose the entire illegal weapons corridor operating between Meerut and Khargone.

This case serves as a stark reminder that crime has no fixed face or age. Relying on appearances alone can be costly, and 'Chachi' Rambiri proved just how deceptive simplicity can be.
